While our daily tours give visitors a good overview of life on the Thoroughgood property, our weekly summer Focus Tours provide a deeper dive into specific areas of interest. Please click on the individual tour titles below for a detailed description of that week’s offering.

All 2024 Focus Tours are FREE and appropriate for all ages. All tours will take place at the Thoroughgood House: 1636 Parish Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23455

Herb Your Enthusiasm

Description

The Virginia Beach History Museums’ historic homes all have gardens, including several types of herbs (such as rosemary, dill, sage, and lemon balm). Homeopathic medicines have been used for centuries and have gained popularity. Learn more about the healing, medicinal and culinary uses of herbs, and why they are such a “big dill” in Hampton Roads history.
